An honest opinion, please.....

.... on my stars for Land of Liberty.  I am not sure about them.  I thought that I would mix it up a little, so instead of using the called for DMC 221, I used Weeks Dye Works Independence, which I have been wanting to use for a while.  But, I am a bit worried that they don't quite look like stars now but a bit like amorphous blobs (I did backstitch them to give them more definition).

Anyway, I would really appreciate your thoughts on my stars.  Thanks everyone.

At the rate my train/plane stitching is going on this piece, I may even be finished by the end of the week, so watch out for a post about passing the Travelling Pattern on, you may be next!

hugs,

I think the stars look ok, but if it was me I'd redo them in 221. If it's bugging you now, it will probably still bug you when it's finished.

I think the stars look great Kaye. I would backstitch them in black.

As much as I hate to rip stuff out I've stitched, I agree with Susan. It will bother you forever and you most likely won't be happy with the piece when you're done. ;(

I'm with Susan and Kim. I'd redo the stars in 221.

The varigation is to bold for such a small motif. I think you would be happier with 221. :)

I agree, the 221 will look the best!

I agree. Re-stitch in 221.

I had a look at the chart online and I've got to agree with the majority vote...221! Sorry - I know this involves more work for you! :0)

I like them the way you stitched, if you add some backstitches it will look fabulous!

I like the stars but if they still bug you why not backstitch in black

cucki said...

Yup you can add some back stitch and they will look fine :)

The stars look nice but they don't really look defined. Perhaps the black would work ...if not then the 221.

When I am so unsure of a thread I find it best to change it...just my thought.

I don't mind the stars as is but a more contrast in the back stitching would define them more. A solid would be great too.
Ultimately you will have to do what you can live with...
so sorry Kaye, not much help

I think if your fabric would have been darker, the thread would have look a lot nicer.
I would suggest stitching on 221, especially if you're not too sure about it yourself :)

It's looking so pretty. I am thinking that you really like the pretty thread you used for the stars. How would it look outlined in the 221 thread? Test maybe? I do like how the stars turned out but could you leave them and add some 221 stars too! Oh just go for it:)) love Annette

I think you would be happier to switch the stars out to a more solid color as the varigation muddles the shape of the star. Otherwise, it's looking great!
